Andhra Pradesh is well-known all over for a popular and thriving home-based industry called Crochet Lace making. Originated in Narsapur, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Crochets are beautifully crafted with cotton thread. Narsapur, situated on the banks of Godavari River has witnessed the rise of women from farming community who started making highly attractive artefacts from colourful lace, about 150 years ago.
The lace work is done using thin threads and these are again woven with thin crochet needles of varying sizes. The famed hand-made crochet industry of Narsapur produces doilies, pillow covers, cushion covers, bed spreads, table-runners, and table cloths etc., which are available in vibrant colors like orange, green, blue, and beige etc.
