Imitating different animal forms is one of the main elements of
traditional and folk dances, which represents man’s association with
other living forms in the nature. One such special dance performed in
Andhra Pradesh, which is quite entertaining for the crowd is Keelu
Gurralu. Gurralu means horses in Telugu. This is a unique dance performed especially by the Yanadi tribes of
Guntur, Nellore, Prakasam and Chittoor districts where they imitate
the horses. The troupe consists of two or four men who act as king and
queen and also warriors
The dance is accompanied by background singers and musical instruments like Harmonium and cymbals, which are used to add a special element of attraction to this unique dance form where men get into wooden/cardboard horses and indulge in dance.
